A lot of people will be getting on airplanes over the next few days and heading to Aotearoa New Zealand for the conference. Here are a couple of things to remember:
Bring your connectors. If you need to connect your laptop, tablet, phone, or other device (are there other devices?), remember to bring your connectors. The displays have all the normal HDMI and VGA ports, but you’ll need your own connectors.
Pack for warm weather, but also pack something showerproof. It’s lovely and warm in Tāmaki Makau Rau Auckland now (25-30ºC most days), but it’s a pacific island, so we do get rain. So don’t forget to pack something waterproof.
Pack good sunblock, and not your Factor 5 coconut oil basting fluid, either. You’ll need at least Factor 50. And if you’re outside for any length of time you’ll need to reapply it every couple of hours. We’re not joking.
Bring a RAT test with you for the first morning of the conference. We’ll provide you with tests for Day 2 and 3, but we’d like you to test before we see you on Day 1. If you are unfortunate enough to pick up COVID in the days before the conference, isolate and get in touch. (We’ll give you information on what to do in the Conference Handbook that should be available online in the next few days).
A couple of other things people have asked me about...
1. Yes, you can bring your presentation on a USB stick, but remember that the computers will be PCs not Macs.
2. And make sure you've got an adapter for the power sockets. NZ has very different ones to Europe/North America.
